– Tripping Nevada-California 2012 –
On this expedition we travel from Las Vegas to Reno, Nevada for
the Gregory Euclide: Nature Out There exhibit at the Nevada Museum of Art, Reno.
While his work is best viewed in person, Euclide’s work may be seen on his website
and the band Bon Iver used a Euclide for their 2011 release, Bon Iver.
First, we drive Route 95 north up into Nevada
and once again enjoy the road through the wide open Mojave Desert.
Now passing through Beatty, Nevada, the Gateway to Death Valley.
Now entering Goldfield, Nevada.
Now passing through Tonopah, Nevada, Queen of the Silver Camps.
View our 2008 tour Tonopah.
The Mizpah Hotel.
Now entering Hawthorne, Nevada, known for the Hawthorne Army Depot.
Leaving Hawthorne to the north, Walker Lake comes into view.
Roadway repaving construction stops traffic to alternate directional flow
at about a twenty minute wait time to proceed.
Meanwhile, iridescent blue damselflies swarm to inspect the stopped vehicles.
Traffic opens up for our direction and we proceed.
Now entering Walker Lake, Nevada.
We pull over to stand and stretch. Our side of the lineup disappears north.
Observing the web-covered guardrails, spiders and damselflies war for survival.
Now entering Schurz, Nevada.
Now entering Fallon, Nevada.
Now entering the biggest little city in the world, Reno, Nevada.
We arrive at the Siena Hotel and our room overlooks the Truckee River.
Leaving to find an evening meal…
We get a little turned around buying a camera battery charger and a pinjack audio cable,
and a cashier was kind enough to direct us to the nearest spirits supply.
Back on track with our supplies we return to our room for the evening and to review
the televised 2012 Summer Olympic highlights.
Locals playing roller derby, or skateboarding, or some sort of sport
in the City Plaza, across the Truckee River.
Evening lightplay with the hotel’s accents.
We save the Euclide exhibit for the morning,
and decide to drive on to Sacramento, California
